Spotlight Q&A: Six Questions with Samantha
What inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?
I grew up watching film and television with my grandmother. Every Sunday morning we’d watch I Love Lucy or watch a film on Turner Class Movies. I remember the way it made me feel and I knew early on that I wanted to be part of that.
What is something about your role you'd like people to know more about?
I work closely with my post team and editors, but what makes my job exciting is that I really work with everyone. Sometimes I am in contact with writers, the production and sound team, composers, VFX artists, studios and networks. I’m making sure everyone is on the same page and I have to know what stage we are in at all times.
If you weren't in your current role, what other industry job would you like to have?
I’d like to be involved in comedy writing. There’s something about comedic timing and dialogue that has always been so fascinating to me. I Love Lucy had some great writers. It would be awesome sitting in those writers rooms, coming up with funny situations and contributing my own witty jokes.
What advice do you have for people just starting out in the industry?
If your heart is in it, then don’t let anything stop you. Trust your intuition and don’t listen to the nay-sayers. They will only speak from their own experiences and only you know what is best for you. When doors close it isn’t a rejection, but a preparation for something else you were better fit for.
How would you like to advance your career in the industry?
I’d love to work my way up to being a post producer or even a line producer. I enjoy the logistics of it all. It’s like a puzzle for me, to figure out what we can do to make the project the best version with what we have available.
What is your favorite production you've worked on?
I worked on the final season of Grown-ish. The cast and crew were a family that had grown over the years. That energy was fun and infectious to be around. With that being said, there's something about each production I've worked on that is special to me.
