Applications for Maine's new Reimbursement Grant are open now through May 15.
The Maine Film Office is accepting applications now through May 15, 2026 for the new Film in Maine Reimbursement Grant.
Through this pilot program, Maine plans to stimulate filmmaking in the state and demonstrate the economic benefit of filming in Maine.
The program is offering up to $700,000 total, awarding two grants of up to $350,000 each to qualifying projects.
How to qualify
To qualify for the grant, projects must meet these requirements:
- Eligible projects: Full-length feature films (narrative or documentary), television pilots, episodic television series, limited series and digital streaming productions filmed in Maine.
- Minimum in-state spending: Projects must spend at least $1,000,000 in Maine.
- Financing requirement: Proof of at least 60% secured funding is required at the time of application.
Projects will be chosen through a competitive review process (not first-come, first-served) and evaluated on economic benefit to Maine.
Program structure
Projects chosen for the grant can see reimbursements in these areas:
- 25% reimbursement for Maine resident labor (above and below the line)
- 20% reimbursement for non-resident labor (above and below the line)
- Labor reimbursement applies to the first $75,000 per individual
- 25% reimbursement for qualifying non-payroll pre-production, production or post-production expenses incurred in Maine
How to apply for the Film in Maine Reimbursement Grant
To apply, applicants must have an account with the Maine Film Office, which can be created for free here. Once your account is created, follow these steps:
- Complete the online registration form.
- Submit a copy of the screenplay.
Applications must be submitted online by midnight on May 15, 2026 to be considered for the pilot program.
Productions will be informed of the outcome of the review process within 30 days of the application’s closing date.
