Are you an independent producer looking to advance your career in the entertainment industry? The Fiction Producing LabĀ is an intensive, two week-long program designed to help creative, independent producers develop their skills.
If chosen, the program includes:
- An introduction to film professionals who can advise you on both the craft and business of independent producing.
- Sessions with legal, financial and production experts.
- Being paired with an experienced Creative Advisor who will help you develop your project over the course of the program.
- TheĀ Alfred P. Sloan Foundation will award one participant of the Film Independent Producing Lab the annual Sloan Producers Grant of $30,000 with which to further develop their project.
Who is eligible for the Fiction Producing Lab?
The Fiction Producing Lab is open to the lead producer formally attached to a full-length, live-action, fiction feature film with a completed script and director in place.
Producers must meet this criteria to apply:
- Have a feature length narrative project that is in active development or post-production.Ā
- Must control the rights to the project with which you apply.Ā
- Each application must demonstrate serious attention to the filmās budget and articulate the reasoning behind the budget level.Ā
- Be available for the 2 week in-person program in Los Angeles in October 2026.
Producing partners are welcome to apply as teams and only need to submit a single application. Documentary, animation, short film, new media and episodic projects are not eligible to apply.
How do I apply for the 2026 Fiction Producing Lab?
Applicants must submit the following materials for consideration:
- A cover letter explaining your interest in the Fiction ProducingĀ Lab
- An artist statement detailing why you are attached to produce
- OneĀ complete, feature-length screenplay
- A logline and synopsis
- Bios of attached key cast and crew
- Project status and history
- Budget top sheet and finance plan
- Look book (if applicable)
- Work sample and/or rough cut
