Applications are now open for Film Independent's 2027 Screenwriting Lab.
This lab is a two-week intensive workshop designed to help fiction feature screenwriters strengthen their scripts and advance their careers.
Who Can Apply?
The Screenwriting Lab is open to any writer applying with a completed draft of a feature-length project they wish to workshop during the program, with an eye toward production.
Film Independent Membership is not required when applying to Artist Development Labs.
Why You Should Apply
Selected writers receive individualized story and career development, group workshops and feedback sessions, conversations with film industry veterans, and the opportunity to pitch to industry executives.
Accepted Fellows may also be eligible for a $10,000 cash grant through one of the following Fellowships:
- Cayton-Goldrich Family Foundation Fellowship (for a Jewish filmmaker)
- Muslim Public Affairs Council Foundation Hollywood Bureau Fellowship (for a filmmaker who identifies as American-Muslim)
- 191 Fellowship (for a South Asian or South Asian American filmmaker)
